*FUNDED* VPL Liked This Initiative: "Extra Extra Read All About It!"

Ms. Zupka is a second grade teacher in Hartford, CT with lower income, inter city students. She says, "My students are diverse and come from different ethnic, religious, and social economical backgrounds." In order for her to get leveled guided reading sets for her classroom, we have given a seed fund to kick start her campaign.
Mr. Zupka sent us a note:
"Dear VPL vplstore.com,

Thank you so much for your donations and all your kind words! It means so much to have great donors like all of you supporting all my eager students. These books will greatly help my students become better readers. All my students will be so excited to read all the new books and work on their reading skills. I cannot thank you enough for your continued support.

With gratitude,

Ms. Zupka"

We received further updates from her with photos. Exciting!

Dear VPL vplstore.com,

Thank you again for all of your donations! All these books have had a great impact in our classroom. I have been able to use these books during our guided reading lessons. During this time I meet with different groups based on the students reading levels. These books allow me to teach different skills. For example I have used these books to teach making predictions, retelling the story, main idea, and much more. By teaching these skills my students have been able to move up reading levels. I have seen great gains in reading by all of my students.

Not only do the students use these books during guided reading, but they also are able to read them at another center. During centers students are able to partner read. My students love reading with a buddy. They chose a quiet place in the classroom and read to one another. My students help one another while reading and also learn from one another as well. The skills I teach during our guided reading are enforced during partner reading as well. Students are now able to have a conversation about the book.

My whole class has found these books as a great addition to our classroom. Thank you so much again for all of your generosity!

With gratitude,
Ms. Zupka
